Boyd Alton (Butch) Walsh

May 23, 1940 - May 11, 2006

In memory of my friend and Mentor

The inventor of the Hay Hand, the late Butch Walsh of Arrington, VA

Words cannot express the difference Butch Walsh's influence made in my life.

Butch Walsh came into my life when I was a teenager struggling to complete high school. His care and concern over the years helped guide me through a successul 22 year military career, completion of a Master's Degree, and served as an anchor to calm me in the most difficult of situations.

Butch will always be remembered as an inventor, mechanic, farmer, husband, father, Marine, and pilot. I will remember Butch for freely sharing his knowledge and skills in a manner that literally changed my life. He taught me to unlock my hidden talents and use my hands. This gift allowed me to go forward in life with a new found confidence. I will always be thankful for the big difference that a little time out of Butch's schedule made to me personally.

The invention you saw on the previous page is a testament to Butch's dedication to making a farmer's life easier by assessing a difficult task and developing a logical solution. This invention is not widely marketed. Of the limited amount of Hay Hands in service over the past 10 years, it is proving to be a priceless asset to those who are lucky enough to have one or have used one. The Hay Hand gives a farmer the flexibility to maneuver a round hay bale with ease into positions that would otherwise be extremely difficult, if not impossible

This invention is one of many that Butch Walsh impressed me with creating. You would always know you were in for a treat when Butch said, “Hey, check out my new project!”
